In 1988, Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary was built in the Indian State of Uttarakhand. Binsar sanctuary is near Almora city. The Forest Department of Uttarakhand is the head of Binsar Wildlife.  

Wildlife Sanctuary was opened to conserve and protect the Central Himalayan region broad leaf oak forests. This wildlife sanctuary is famous for the 200 species of national and international birds.

In the area of Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary, an ancient Bineshwar Mahadev temple is situated, which was built by Raja Kalyan Chand in the 16th century. Many tourists and local people come to worship in this temple. 

Grand Oak Manok– Grand Oak Manor is now the heritage hotel near Wildlife Sanctuary of Binsar. It was a summer home of Sir Henry Ramsay and the Kumaon Commissioner department.

Khali estate is a bungalow built by Sir Henry Ramsay in Binsar. As a guest Vijay Laxmi Pandit, Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi, and Mahatma Gandhi spend some days of their lives.

Mary Budden Estate– Mary Budden Estate is a colonial home in Binsar. And also, it is beside the Bineshwar Temple. 

Geography

The land of Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary is expanded into 45.52 km2. Binsar sanctuary is situated in the lesser Himalayan range. It is an average of 2412 m above sea level.

The temperature of that area varies maximum of 15° to 20°c. The sequential form of ridges and gorges made the Sanctuary awesome. 

Flora Species

Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary is opulent with various species of flora. A green environment and fresh nature surround the Sanctuary. Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary is a homeland of various species of birds, butterflies, mammals, and reptiles. It has been recorded recently that mammals present in the Sanctuary are – leopard (Panthera pardus), Himalayan goral (Naemorhedus goral), chital (Axis axis), musk deer (Moschus spp.), Sumatran serow (Capricornis), jungle cat (Felis chaus), rhesus macaque (Macaca mulatta), wild boar (Sus scrofa), red fox (Vulpes vulpes), grey langur (Presbytis entellus), pine marten (Martes martes) red giant flying squirrel (Petaurista petaurista), and Indian muntjac (Muntiacus muntjak), black bear (Ursus thibetanus), Bengal Tiger.


Birds species- tits, forktail, nuthatches, blackbirds, parakeets, laughing thrush, magpies, kilij pheasant (Lophura ), monal, koklass pheasant, eagles, woodpeckers, Eurasian jays, etc.


Reptiles- Himalayan palm civets, hares, serows, ubiquitous langurs and macaques, leopards, mountain goats, barking deer, wild boars, porcupines, and yellow-throated martens.


Butterflies- The Himalayan Tortoiseshell, Sorrel Sapphire, and Indian Cabbage White.

Entry time and Ticket price

Tourists can enter the Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary from morning 9:00 AM to evening 7:30 PM. 

Ticket price varies for different categories. Also, you can add on the vehicle charge for the Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary safari. You can enjoy the safari with a zoomed view of the species and have good photography and experience.

Railways â€“ Kathgodam Station is the nearest railway station to the Binsar region. Lucknow, Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, etc., are connected with Kathgodam junction. From the outside of the station, taxis and buses are available.
